LAND CONVERSION

Presently an owner of land which is not defined as agricultural land as per definition of the sugar industry efficiency Act, and wishing to develop same, is required to submit an application for land conversion permit and go through a lengthily procedure, to be told eventually that a LCP is not required.

The Process has been simplified to exempt owners of non agricultural land from an application for Land Conversion Permit. They will only submit a declaration to the Land conversion Unit to the effect that their land has not been planted under sugar cane, tea and tobacco for the past 10 years and they will be provided with a certificate of same within 2 weeks by the ministry of Agro Industry.

This will therefore enable owners of non agricultural land to apply directly to the relevant authority, should they wish to develop their land.
